Rejuvenating Set

Review: Professional Skin Care Formula by Dr. Alvin Rejuvenating Set

My mom always watch Kumikitang Kabuhayan: Swak na Swak. One Saturday while we were watching, Professional Skin Care Formula by Dr. Alvin was featured again and she asked me if I could by a set so we can try it and so I did.

I remember back then my first facial set was from 'Beauche' review here and then there was 'Local Obagi', which led me to try Professional Skin Care Formula products. This was like 5 years ago, today their packaging has changed and there are more local sellers than before. By the way this review keeps on getting delayed because of untaken product photos, anywhere here we go. Off to our Rejuvenating Set by Dr. Alvin Review below:

What is it?
Rejuvenating Set by Dr. Alvin is just one of the beauty sets by Professional Skin Care Formula. It consists of Rejuvenating Toner, kojic soap, sunblock cream and 4 in 1 bleaching cream and is said to be one of their best-sellers.

How to use
Basically the routine is simple but needs a bit of dedication. I must admit there are days wherein I grew tired of doing everything altogether. But patience is a real virtue!

MORNING
Kojic - Rejuvenating Toner - Sunblock cream
NIGHT
Kojic - Rejuvenating Toner - Bleaching cream (4 in 1)

For the detailed step-by-step instructions you can enlarge first photo above. The set can only be used for a maximum of 30 days then you will need to stop and use maintenance set or you know, an old basic beauty routine you might have.

Packaging
It looks posh than their old packaging. It is still made of plastic but now we can distinguish which is the authentic product and which is not. One way to check if the Rejuvenating set you bought is authentic is by checking the bottom of the 4 in 1 cream. There should be embossed PSCF letters which means, you've guessed it right, Professional Skin Care Formula.

My Experience
My skin is sensitive to kojic soaps so I was a bit worried. But I'm so glad that my first two nights was ordinary. No bumps, no sting, just plain dry feeling because it is an acid soap.

On my 3rd night I felt that the soap stings. I cannot leave it for one minute as instructed, so I washed it off after about 20 seconds. (Okay so girls rule#1 if you cannot endure it, better skip or do what your instinct tells you). Application of the bleaching cream also stings. But that is kinda expected. There were white heads appearing here and there which I didn't mind. There is also a bit of not so obvious redness. On my 5th day I noticed my face was micro peeling. I was fine with it, I am more than ready to peel.I am even glad that at least the rejuvenating toner doesn't sting but it still makes my skin dry. @_@

The peeling period is not really crazy. Peeling was mild and it doesn't hurt as much as I expected. Heard horror stories about astringents? I did. Long time ago when I first tried peeling products I look like an apple. It was very painful back then. :(

Peeling means new skin and its one way to hasten rejuvenation. Because this is new skin make sure to take good care of it and use sunblock. I use the sunblock cream provided with the set but its just SPF 15 so I still use another sunblock cream on top of it just to be sure. I use Dermplus sunblock SPF35 in case you are wondering. During this time that my face is peeling I bring the handy dandy sunblock tube provided in the set and I also use moisturizer to make the peeling skin less visible.
I also still put makeup and my trusty BB cream is present.

I noticed that mornings are pleasant, my face looks bright and even toned. My mom often tells me that my forehead looks 'makinis' (flawless) but its actually dry and tight because of the cream and toner. I still got acne before my period which is again fine with me. No product can fight the power of hormones.

How much and where to buy?
I got mine from one of their stores in Buendia. They actually have stores in bizarre places. But glad what I got is authentic.

What I love
Clearer skin in just a month
Got rid of pimples on the side of my face
Radiant skin on the mornings
Not much redness and sting when I use the set

What I don't
Micropeeling (but yeah not really a con because this is needed to be done)

TIPS
  • Make sure you got an authentic Professional Skin Care set by checking the 4-in-1 bleaching cream's bottom. It should have an embossed 'PSCF'. The products should come with a silver seal.
  • If the soap stings too much its okay to wash it off right away or use a moisturizing facial wash for the mean time until you can use the soap again.
  • Use sunblock as much as you go outside. I stay inside the office so this is not a biggie. But if you spend lots of your time outside then better bring your sunblock with you so you can reapply.
  • Stings, micropeel and a bit of redness is normal but if anything is too much-
  • Consult your derma if redness/irritation persists
And behooold!~
Here I go with my makeup less face after 30 days. Thanks to the good morning sun, brand new washed face and the Rejuvenating set. See I have acne because of my red day but it is not that bad. Hello world!

Overall~
I like how the Rejuvenating set by Dr. Alvin made my skin free from too much acne. I also have less blackheads since I started using it. I believe with another set my face can even be better. I hope it will also minimize my pores more. Only another set can tell!
I've just finished my 30 days of usage and thus I need to stop as instruction. I will be using another set after 2 months or so or I can opt to use a maintenance set. What do you think?

Pescador Island

Pescador Island and Panagsama Beach: The Diving Paradises of Moalboal

Pescador Island and Panagsama Beach
The Coral Triangle is a 5.7 million square kilometer, roughly triangular area of tropical marine waters that encompass the Solomon Islands, Papa New Guinea, Malaysia, Indonesia, and our very own Philippines. With 500 species of reef-building corals and innumerable species of marine organisms that call these corals home, the Coral Triangle is dubbed the Amazon of the sea. Its rich resources are more than enough to sustain the 120 million people.
Being part of the rich Coral Triangle is what makes the Philippines an excellent, world-class diving destination. And in Cebu, beautiful dive spots are all over the region. Two of these sites are the internationally renowned Pescador Island and the equally famous Panagsama Beach (sometimes dubbed Basdiot). Both destinations are in the lively town of Moalboal in southern Cebu.
This was our first dive out of Kontiki Resort in Maribago, Lapu Lapu, Mactan. Being PADI Open Water divers, we wanted to explore other spectacular sites around the country. Moalboal, we realized, was an ideal location to start our underwater adventures for the year since the entire coast is practically sprinkled with dive sites of different characteristics.
Together with a few adventure-blooded friends, we arrived at the Moalboal town center at around 7:30 AM after a 3-hour bus ride. We ate a heavy breakfast and bought these tasty grilled steaks for our lunch. These seem to be a recipe for a great dive. However, a steady drizzle in the locality and ominous gray clouds that loom over the horizon got us worried.

We got into a large tricycle that took us to Panagsama Beach at the western side of town. It is advisable that you tell the driver what time you want to be picked up; tricycles come at irregular intervals in Panagsama Beach.

Less than half an hour later, we arrived at Nelson’s Scuba Dive School. Yes, we know what you’re thinking. The façade may not look much, but Nelson’s is one of the premier and respected diving outfitters in Moalboal. It is a landmark in the Cebu’s local diving scene.

That is Nelson Abenido, the proprietor of the outfit and a scuba diving instructor. He is no stranger to the underwater world.

Nelson’s Scuba Dive School has a complete array of high-quality scuba rental gear. They also have their own air tank refilling facility.

Pescador Island

After donning our wet suits and preparing our scuba equipment, we proceeded to the staging point at the beach. A few foreigner tourists joined us in this dive.
With everyone accounted for, we headed to Pescador Island, which is located a few kilometers off the coast of Moalboal. We were hoping the skies would clear up, but the day continued to be gray and drizzly. We had to endure a relatively rough ride.
Pescador Island
After 30 minutes, we arrived at the famed island. Pescador is named so because of the many fishermen who visit the island to harvest its bounty. In Spanish, Pescador means “fishermen.” The rich diversity of marine life that surrounds Pescador has made the island a very popular site for recreational divers worldwide.
Pescador Island
After our boatmen found a nice spot to tie the boat to a floating buoy (dropping an anchor is prohibited because it damages the reef), we put on our dive gear. Walking towards the edge of the boat was quite a challenge for everyone as the vessel kept pitching and rolling on the waves. Helpful and accommodating PADI divemasters had to lend a hand to steady the divers.

Mayon Volcano

Mayon, the most famous of the active volcanoes of the Philippines, is a perfect stratovolcano rising to 2462 m

on Luzon Island. It erupts very frequently.

Background:

Mayon is the archetype of a symmetrical stratovolcano and one of the world most active ones. It has frequent

eruptions producing pyroclastic flows, mud flows and ash falls that repeatedly triggered large-scale evacuations.

Mayon's most violent eruption, in 1814, killed more than 1200 people and devastated several towns.

the volcano rises 2462 m above the Albay Gulf and has very steep upper slopes averaging 35-40 degrees

capped by a small summit crater.

Historical records of eruptions date back to 1616 and range from strombolian to basaltic plinian, with cyclical

activity beginning with basaltic eruptions, followed by longer term andesitic lava flows. Eruptions occur

predominately from the central conduit and have also produced lava flows that travel far down the flanks.

Pyroclastic flows and mudflows have commonly swept down many of the approximately 40 ravines that radiate

from the summit and have often devastated populated lowland areas.

Queen Tuna Park

Queen Tuna Park

by Jane Dacumos on September 06, 2012
Aptly called the Tuna Capital of the Philippines, General Santos City is host to modern amenities and endowed with the beauty of nature, where diverse cultures abound. One attraction that gives legacy to GenSan's prime product is the Queen Tuna Park, which is a favorite destination of many locals.
Nested in Barangay Dadiangas South, Queen Tuna Park is regularly visited by many locals and foreign tourists to spend leisure time together with their loved ones. The whole environment is good to be photographed and if you want to explore it, you can just have a walk around and feel the cool breeze coming from the Celebes Sea.
Another good thing in the place is the large life-size statues of animals such as elephants, fishes and dinosaurs. If you’re going to visit the park, you will notice kids playing with the large waves and fishing boats docked in the nearby wooden port.

Despite of some issues in Basilan, the local government of the city gives their best efforts to improve the place and make it one of the centers of tourism in General Santos City. Queen Tuna Park is open to the public from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm. Before entering the park there are some rules and regulations to follow for the park's welfare.

How to get there

Queen Tuna Park is about 14 kilometers from the General Santos International Airport. Hire a habal-habal (P120) or taxi (P300) going directly to the place. In the city center, any tricycle (P10) can bring you to the park.
General Santos City serves as the inbound destination for the sights, sounds and culture of SOCCSKSARGEN. Air, sea and land transport provide easy access to the key cities in the Philippines and the rest of the world. The City is home to the Philippines' second largest airport in area and has one of the most modern seaports in the country today.
  • Air: Its airport can comfortably accommodate landings of the most modern wide-bodied aircraft. The GSC International Standard Airport can be reached direct from Manila, Cebu, Ilo-ilo or via Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro and Davao through any Mindanao-based flight. Though there are still no direct international flights in the area, Philippine Airlines Air Philippines and Cebu Pacific operate in GenSan, setting links to a wide range of destinations.
  • Sea: GenSan's Makar Wharf is considered one of the best in the country. With a 740-meter docking length and a 19-meter width, the wharf connects the city to destinations within and outside the Philippines. Negros Navigation, WG&A and Sulpicio Lines provide local routes while Indonesian shipping lines contribute their GenSan-Indonesian route for passenger and cargo traffic.
  • Land: SOCSKSARGEN land travel is a fast and convenient. With more than 400 passenger buses and jeepneys wielding routes within, to and from the growth region, getting to your place of destination is a comfort. Tricycles - three wheeled motorcycles with side-cars, are the city's main mode of land transportation and has been on the road since the pioneering times. Air-conditioned taxis and rent-a-cars are also readily available. The Pan-Philippine Highway links GenSan to other Major cities in Mindanao and to the rest of the country.
